Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University previously called as Purvanchal University was given the present name in honor of the former Chief Minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh. The university was formed in the city of Janupur on the 2nd of October 1987. It was formed as an affiliating university under a state Act 1973. The university has emerged as one of the leading universities due to its efficient and transparent educational administration, excellence in administrative & academic activities and continuous quantitative & qualitative development. The jurisdiction of the university is spread over the eleven districts of the state of Uttar Pradesh and initially, the university had only 68 affiliated colleges, but now it has more than 300 colleges under its jurisdiction.
