The full name of Gorakhpur University is Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University and the university is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. The university is an affiliating-cum-residential and teaching university, which came into existence by an Act of Uttar Pradesh Legislature in the year 1956.

Even though, the university was established in the year 1956; it started to function from the 1st of Septmeber 1957. During this year the faculties of education, law, commerce and arts started to function and during the year 1958, the faculty of science came into existence and in the later years the other faculties’ like faculty of agriculture, medicine and engineering were introduced by the university.
