Osmania University was established in the year 1918 and the university holds the seventh place among the oldest universities in India. It is first university to be established in the city of Hyderabad and it is the third oldest university in the region of South India. Right from its inception, the university has shown notable progress in all the faculties of education dealt by it. The university has obtained A grade status from NAAC and it is offering education in the faculty of informatics, law, technology, engineering, education, management, oriental languages, science, commerce, social sciences and arts.

Reprographic facilities are also available on payment including inter-library loan facility. The University Library coordinates a library system, which links the libraries in all the campus and constituent college libraries. The library brings out a monthly list of additions and conducts Book Exhibitions to celebrate appropriate occasions such as the United Nations Week, Literacy Day, etc.
The University has taken up several new initiatives in the recent past to make rigorous changes in teaching methodology that leads to improved academic performance by students, intensive use of new technologies in learning and evaluation processes, and strengthening infrastructural facilities to improve quality and quantity of research output and professional development activities
